Newton, MA - The Lasell women's basketball team hosted the Monks of Saint Joseph's College on Saturday afternoon.
The Lasers looked to rebound off a tough loss earlier in the week at Johnson & Wales but faced another tough conference opponent in Saint Josephs. The Monks pounced early opening up a 10-point, 13-3 advantage. Despite the early deficit the Lasers showed some fight and were able to keep the lead from growing, cutting the game to 8, 21-13 going into the second quarter. They carried some momentum with them into the second, extending the run at the end of the first to a 10-2 stint, making it just a 4-point game. The Monks however then stole the momentum back as they rattled off a 15-0 burst over the next 7 minutes. Outscoring the Lasers 18-9 in the quarter, they took a 17-point lead into the half.
In the third quarter, the Lasers got the lead down to 15 but couldn't gain anymore ground of the Monks lead. The fourth quarter saw more of the same, with the Lasers unable to make a run and eventually suffering a 68-50 defeat.
Juju Nealy and Alexis Bulson-Cuozzo both tied for a team high 7-points on the day. While no Laser scored in double-digits, Laura Johnson had another great rebound outting with 12 boards to lead all players. She is now averaging exactly 12 rebounds per game on the year.
Up Next - The Lasers will be home again next Saturday for Senior Day, hosting the Cadets of Norwich University.
