WBB: Lasers Fall to Amcats on the Road

Paxton, MA - Lasell women's basketball traveled to Anna Maria on Saturday, matching up against the Amcats in a GNAC conference game.

The first quarter saw both offenses score the ball at a high level as the teams combined for 38 points over ten minutes. The game see-sawed back and forth as neither team led by more than 4 for the entirety of the period. Going into second the Lasers found themselves slightly behind 18-20.

A Shirle Major 3-pointer opened the second and gave the Lasers back the lead early 21-20. Keeping the tightly contested theme, the two teams continued to match each other stride for stride and the Lasers found themselves down by 2, 28-30 with a few minutes left in the quarter. Within the final minutes of the half, however, they were able to break off a 6-0 run going into the break with a 34-30 lead.

They took this momentum into the third as an 8-2 start to the quarter gave them the first double-digit lead of the game, 42-32 after Abigail Duclos drilled a three. After having extended the lead to 10, the Amcats swiftly responded, as across the next 3 minutes they went on a 10-run of their own evening the game up at 42. They extended their run to the end of the quarter, going up 48-42 headed to the fourth.

Unfortunately for the Lasers, the momentum the Amcats gained in the third carried over as they kept building their lead. Going up by as many as 15, the lead was just too much for the Lasers to recover from late as they suffered a 65-55 defeat.

Laura Johnson led the Lasers in scoring with 11 and continues to dominate the rebound category as she poured in 17 boards on the afternoon. Blaize Mack and JuJu Nealy also each had 8 points for the Lasers.

Up Next - The Lasers will play next on Wednesday night hosting the Raiders of Rivier at the Athletic Center.
