WBB: Lasers Make History with 54-45 Victory Over Emmanuel

Boston, MA- The Lasell University Women's Basketball team achieved a historic milestone, defeating Emmanuel College 54-45 for their first-ever win over the Saints. This victory marked the first time in program history that the Lasers have beaten Emmanuel, ending a 18-1 series deficit since their first matchup in 2006. The win improved Lasell's record to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while dropping Emmanuels record to 5-9 overall, 0-3 in conference.

The Lasers gained an early lead over the Saints, but at the halfway mark of the first quarter things were tied up. Three back to back layups for Lasell gave them the opening they were looking for, followed by a three-pointer from Shirle Major bringing the score to 17-11.

The second quarter was a slower offensive showing from both sides of the gym, with a handful of free-throws made and a few layups the teams headed into halftime with a 30-17 score in favor of Lasell. Emmanuel fought back in the third quarter, outscoring Lasell 17-13, but the Lasers held firm and sealed the victory with a strong fourth quarter.

Although Lasell shot 38.3% from the field and Emmanuel struggled at just 21.1%, the Lasers' defensive effort and rebounding dominance were the deciding factors. Lasell also excelled at the free-throw line, converting 16-of-24 attempts, while forcing 18 turnovers and limiting Emmanuel to just 45 points.

This historic win marks a major milestone for Lasell's program as they continue their strong GNAC campaign. Meanwhile, Emmanuel will look to regroup after suffering their third consecutive conference loss.
