New London, NH - Lasell women's basketball traveled to Colby-Sawyer College for their first GNAC road game of the 2024-25 season on Tuesday.
In the opening minutes, the Chargers captured the lead scoring the first two baskets on the night. The Lasers responded shortly thereafter putting in two baskets of their own on a quick 5-0 burst. After the next basket by Colby-Sawyer regained the lead, the Lasers went on to outscore the Chargers 8-2 in the last five minutes of the first quarter giving them a 13-8 lead going into the second period. In the second period, they extended their run from the first quarter, by opening a double-digit 20-10 advantage at the 7:33 mark. However, they were not done there as they continued to get contributions from the bench, including Blaize Mack and Shirle Major. Going into halftime the lead had ballooned to nearly 20 as the Lasers took a 34-15 lead going into the break.
In the third quarter, the Lasers kept their momentum and continued to press the foot on the gas not allowing the Chargers to get any closer back into striking distance. By the end of the third quarter, the Lasers held a commanding 49-22 advantage after having limited their opponent to single-digit scoring in each of the first three quarters. In the fourth, the Chargers were finally able to have some breakthrough offensively putting in 18 points to the Laser's 12, but this was not enough as the Lasers went on to post a 61-40 victory.
Both bench scoring and second-chance points were big factors of the Lasers road win. The Laser bench accounted for 42 of 61 points and also outscored the Chargers bench by 23. On the offensive glass, they capitalized on extra possessions often with 14 second-chance points, and defensively held the Chargers to 0 second-chance points. The key performers on the night for the Lasers were Blaize Mack and Shirle Major who off the bench combined for 20 points. Mack's 12 points went along nicely with 10 rebounds giving her a double-double. Major's 8 points and 2 steals were another boost off the Lasell bench. Laura Johnson was very effective as well putting up 10 rebounds and chipping in 5 points.
Up Next - The Lasers have a quick turnaround as they host Fisher College on Wednesday night at the Athletic Center.
