Newton, MA - Lasell hosted their first home game of 2025 squaring off against the Mariners of Mitchell College.
A low-scoring first couple of minutes saw Lasell pounding the offensive glass for second-chance opportunities that they just couldn't quite convert on. An and-one by Blaize Mack put the Lasers up 9-3 about midway through the quarter and the Lasers would lead by as much as 8, taking a 17-12 advantage into the second. After a 4-0 start to the quarter for the Mariners cutting the lead to just a point, Lasell then rattled off 17 straight points over a 7-minute span boosting the lead to 18. The rebounding both offensively and defensively tells the story as at the half they had 38 total rebounds to Mitchell's 16, and 19 of those were offensive. Also bench points and points off turnovers were lopsided categories as the Lasers held large advantages in both which fueled the big run.
Going into the second half, the Lasers kept their foot on the gas as the lead ballooned to 25 by the end of the third quarter. Holding such a lead they were able to coast to an eventual 68-39 victory.
Kiara Cerruti led the scoring for Lasell pouring in 14 and adding in 7 rebounds. The other Laser in double digits was Mia Sullivan-Saunders who added 10 points. Two Lasers posted double-figure rebounds as part of the rebounding dominance with Hailey Johnson having 13 boards to go along with 7 points and Laura Johnson posting 11. To go along with outrebounding the Mariners the Lasers also had 37 more bench points and 18 more points in the paint.
Up Next - Lasell will travel to Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday night with a starting tip set for 5:30.
