WBB: Blaha Goes the Distance as Lasers Beat Dean

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers defeated the Dean College Bulldogs by a final score of 80-37. The win improves the Lasers record to 6-18 overall and 5-12 in GNAC play, while Dean now sits at 0-22 and 0-17.

The Lasers came out firing on all cylinders, as they went up on a Sheridan Blaha layup just seconds into the game. Over the first eight minutes they would go on a 15-2 run to take control of the game, control that they would never give up. They would outscore the Bulldogs 25-6 in the first quarter. The second quarter was more of the same. The Lasers used a 10-2 run in the middle of the quarter to open up a 40-12 lead. A last second layup would give the Lasers a 47-21 lead at the half.

The third quarter started just how the rest of the game had gone, as the Lasers went on a 9-0 run to start the second half. The Lasers would lead 65-31 headed into the final period. With the game already in hand, the story of the game turned to Sheridan Blaha, the lone Laser senior. Playing in her final home game, Blaha scored 10 points in the fourth, including an and-one play with just a minute remaining. She would then assist on the final basket of the game, a Laura Johnson lay up with just three seconds left.

After being honored prior to the game, Blaha went on to play the best game of her Lasell career. Blaha scored 17 points, one shy of her career high, which led the team. She also grabbed three rebounds, dished out four assists, and collected two steals. Perhaps most impressively, Blaha played all 40 minutes in the game, becoming the first Laser since 2018 to play 40 minutes in a non-overtime game.

Also scoring in double-digits for the Lasers was Shirle Major (15), Laura Johnson (10), and Brenna Graber (10). Johnson also grabbed 12 rebounds, seven of which were offensive rebounds. This marked the first career double-double for Johnson. Graber also led the team with five steals.

Up Next - The Lasers will end their season by travelling to Albertus Magnus on Saturday, February 18th. That game will start at 1pm.
