WBB: Lasers Fall Behind Raiders

Newton, MA – The Lasell Lasers fell to the Rivier Raiders by a final score of 82-57 on Thursday night. The loss drops the Lasers to 4-16 on the season, and 3-10 in conference play. The Raiders are now 11-11 and 8-6.

After Rivier made a layup to start the game, Shirle Major hit a three pointer to give the Lasers an early lead. A Raiders 9-0 run gave them control, and they never looked back. They would take a 20-13 lead into the second quarter. The Lasers played tough in the second quarter, and after the Raiders extended their lead to 13 points, Lasell was able to fight back and get it into single digits. But the Rivier offense proved to be too much for the Lasers, as another 9-0 run for the Raiders gave them the momentum. The Lasers would end the half playing well, using a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 10, before a pair of last second free throws from Rivier made it a 39-27 game at the break. The second half was similar to the first, as the Raiders had an answer for everything the Lasers did. The Raiders would take the game 82-57.

The Lasers were led by Shirle Major's 14 points. Also scoring in double-digits was Jasmine DePina, who scored 10 points off the bench. Juju Nealy would add nine, while Laura Johnson scored eight. Johnson also added seven rebounds, second on the team behind Kaitlyn Antonucci's nine.

Up Next – The Lasers will look to get back in the win column when they take on Anna Maria on the road on Saturday, February 4th. That game will start at 2pm.
