WBB: Lasers Pick Up Conference Opening Win

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers picked up their second win of the season in their conference opener on Saturday, beating Johnson & Wales by a score of 62-44. The Lasers move to 2-5 on the season, and 1-0 in conference play, while the Wildcats are now 1-4 and 0-1.

The Wildcats opened the game on a 7-2 run, but the Lasers stayed composed, and didn't let the game out of hand. They ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to send the game to the second quarter all tied at 15.

In the second quarter the two teams went back and forth, with neither team able to pull away. The Lasers held a lead as high as four points, and went into halftime with a 26-25 lead.

The third quarter was where the game changed, and the Lasers took over. After the Wildcats took a lead 30-29 with seven minutes remaining in the quarter, the Lasers went on a 9-0 run to take control. The Lasers won the quarter 21-8, and took a 14 point lead into the final period.

The Lasers built their lead to as many as 20 in the fourth quarter, as they cruised to the 62-44 victory.

The Lasers were led by Shirle Major's 21 points off the bench, eight of which came in the game changing third quarter. Behind her was Juju Nealy with 14. Angela DiNunzio added nine. Jasmine DePina controlled the boards all game, as she grabbed 12 rebounds.

Coach Kelley Sundberg said after the game that "Today was a great team win. The player's have been very coachable and focusing on getting better every practice. Today was a by product of that."

Up Next - The Lasers will return to non-conference play on Wednesday, December 7th with a home game against Trinity (CT). That game will tipoff from the Athletic Center at 7pm.
