WBB: Lasers Fall in Home Opener

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers dropped their home opener against Maine-Augusta Saturday afternoon by a score of 74-70. The loss drops the Lasers to 0-2 on the season, while the Moose move to 2-2.

The first quarter saw the two teams trade baskets throughout the quarter, with the Moose taking a lead late. The Lasers trailed 22-16 after one period, with Juju Nealy (Fitchburg, MA) scoring half of their points.

The second period saw the Moose get out to a 30-22 lead, but a quick Lasers 8-2 run brought them within a basket. The Moose would end the half leading 37-33. The Lasers were again paced by Nealy in the quarter, as she scored another eight points, giving her 16 for the half.

After an early layup for Maine-Augusta, the Lasers would go on a 9-0 run to take a 42-39 lead just two and a half minutes into the second half. The Lasers would hold onto the lead the rest of the quarter, and took a 55-53 lead into the fourth quarter.

With just under four minutes remaining in the game, the Lasers got a three pointer from Jasmine DePina (Providence, RI) to give them a 64-61 lead. But the Moose used a 13-6 run to end the game, giving them the 74-70 win.

The Lasers were led by Nealy's 24 points. Brooke Damboise (Bolton, CT) was behind her with 13 points. Also scoring in double digits was Angelina DiNunzio with 10. Mia Sullivan-Sanders (Anaconda, MT) led the team with eight rebounds.
