Women's Basketball: Lasers fall, 89-28, at Saint Joseph's College of Maine

STANDISH, Maine - Graduate student Peyton Young of the Lasell University women's basketball team scored in double figures for the second consecutive game and third time this season Saturday, as she finished with 12 points during an 89-28 setback in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Saint Joseph's College of Maine.

Young shot 5 of 10 from the field and 2 for 3 on 3-pointers for the Lasers (9-15, 7-11 GNAC). Sophomore Sarah Milne tied a career-high and led all Lasell players with six rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench for Lasell, while junior Sheridan Blaha tallied four points and four boards.

Grace Philippon led the way for the Monks (20-4, 14-2 GNAC) with a game-high 20 points, while Angelica Hurley corralled a game-leading 11 rebounds. Cassandra Stapelfeld (14 points), Kaleigh Walsh (13) and Hailey Anderson (10) also played well in the victory.

Young recorded 10 first-half points, but Philippon tallied 12 points in the opening quarter, giving the hosts a 28-7 advantage at the end of one. The hosts extended the lead to 47-19 going into halftime.

Two made free throws by Walsh put the hosts in front, 71-21, heading into the final 10 minutes. Senior guard Marie Zampano buried a three-ball in the fourth and Milne tallied two points and four rebounds. Anderson scored seven points in the quarter for the Monks.

The Monks shot 50.0% from the field (33 of 66) and 51.7% from beyond the 3-point line (15 for 29). 

The Lasers earned the ninth seed in the GNAC Tournament and will travel to eighth-seeded Norwich Tuesday at 5 p.m. for a first-round matchup.
