WBK: Lasers topped by Falcons in GNAC clash

Newton, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers women's basketball team fell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup with the Albertus Magnus College Falcons, 101-58, Wednesday at the Lasell Athletic Center.

Freshman Juju Nealy (Fitchburg, Mass.) led the Lasers in scoring with 17 points. Fellow classmate Jasmine DePina (Providence, R.I.) scored 17 points and brought down seven rebounds. Freshman Mia Sullivan-Sanders (Anaconda, Mont.) scored eight points and added eight rebounds as well.

Sophomore Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) led the way for the Falcons with 24 points on 10 of 15 from the field. Freshman Jakara Murray-Leach (Norwalk, Conn.) added 22 points and freshman Diamond White (Hamden Conn.) scored 20 with five steals. Off the bench sophomore Carsyn Langhorn (Norwalk, Conn.) added 14 points.

The Falcons started the first quarter on a good note, scoring the first five points. Lasell stormed back following the 5-0 run by Albertus with an 8-0 run of their own led by four points by DePina and four points by freshman Jess Carney (Westport, Conn.) The teams traded baskets through the mid-part of the quarter with the game being all knotted up with just under three minutes to play. Albertus took control of the final three minutes scoring nine of eleven points to go up 21-14 at the end of one.

The first two minutes of the second quarter saw both teams evenly match with only two points between the two. This trend continued for much of the quarter Albertus strung a couple of baskets together, but Lasell answered back. Each time the Falcons though added a few points to their advantage. The Falcons stormed out to their biggest lead following a free throw by Murray-Leach to hold a 23-point lead. Lasell answered over the final minute and a half to get the lead down to 18 at half.

The Falcons hot shooting continued in the second half while Lasell began to struggle from the field. The Falcons continued to pull away in both the third and the fourth quarters to win 101-58.

The Lasers will be back in action on Saturday, January 15, when they travel to Johnson & Wales for a conference clash. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
