WBK: Lasell defeated by Colby-Sawyer; Allen tops Lasers in setback

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Lasell University women's basketball team suffered an 81-51 loss to Colby-Sawyer College Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at the Coffin Fieldhouse.

Senior Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) recorded her second triple-double in seven days and third of her career to lead the Chargers. Colby-Sawyer improves to 14-7 overall and 4-4 in the GNAC, while Lasell falls to 9-12 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

Lasell was led by a 13-point effort from senior D'Asia Allen (Providence, R.I.). Senior Amanda Ortiz (Newton, Mass.) added 11 points and four blocks.

Hamilton finished with 17 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. The senior guard was 5-of-5 from the floor, 3-of-3 from beyond the arc and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Senior Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) posted her 13th double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Sydney Noyes (Newbury, Mass.) made 8-of-11 shots for 16 points.

The home team shot 65% in the first quarter and hit 4-of-6 three-pointers to lead 33-10 after 10 minutes. The defense held Lasell to a pair of made three points and four free throws. Hamilton scored 13 of her 17 points in the frame.

For the second quarter in a row, the Chargers scored 14 points in the paint. Colby-Sawyer only added a point to its lead, however, due in part to Lasell converting on all eight free throw attempts in the frame. The Chargers led 50-26 at the break.

Each team made four buckets in the third and Colby-Sawyer outscored Lasell 16-13 to go on top 66-39 after three.

Freshman Kyle Marquis (Penacook, N.H.) scored five points in the fourth to add to the Colby-Sawyer lead. Junior Meg Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) also had five for Lasell, but the Chargers were too much and went on for the 81-51 victory.

Colby-Sawyer shot 43.1% for the game and held Lasell to 21.7%. The Chargers dominated the glass with a 56-36 discrepancy in rebounds.

The Lasers travel to Rivier on Tuesday at 7 p.m., while the Chargers host Norwich on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
