WBK: Lasers roll past CCNY in non-conference game; Montgomery records double-double

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell University women's basketball team earned an 89-67 win over The City College of New York on Sunday in the Lasell Athletic Center.

The Lasers improve to 9-8 overall while the visiting Beavers fall to 2-16.

Junior Precious Montgomery (Bridgeport, Conn.) recorded a double-double in the victory with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Senior Amanda Ortiz (Newton, Mass.) also scored 19 points with a strong performance off the bench from junior Meg Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) who added 17 points and eight rebounds.

Despite the loss for the Beavers, freshman Riley Boehm (Orlando, Fla.) had a career day with 49 points, shooting 12-of-19 from three-point range.

The Lasers went down 7-0 early in the first quarter but rallied back to find an eight point lead after the first quarter.

The home team outscored the Beavers 24-11 in a strong second quarter. Montgomery shot 6-12 from the field to score 15 of her 19 points before the break.

The Beavers outscored the Lasers in the third quarter 17-12 but it wasn't enough as the home team finished the game 89-67.

The Lasers return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday, January 29 against Regis College at 7 p.m. CCNY will play Tuesday, January 28 against College of Staten Island at 5 p.m.
