WBK: Lasers fall to Albertus Magnus; Ortiz scores 15 alongside 16 rebounds

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell University women's basketball team was defeated by the Albertus Magnus Falcons Tuesday evening in the Athletic Center, 75-55.

The Lasers drop to 2-2 in conference and 8-7 overall. The visiting Falcons improve to 3-1 in conference and 12-5 overall.

Senior D'Asia Allen (Providence, R.I.) led the Lasers with 16 points on 6-14 shooting from the field. Senior Amanda Ortiz (Newton, Mass.) also shot 6-14 from the field and recorded a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds.

Senior guard Shyla Osmond (New Haven, Conn.) poured in 25 points and 10 assists for the Falcons and junior Cassie Couture (Waterbury, Conn.) scored 16 in the victory.

The Lasers found themselves down 18-9 late in the first quarter after a pair of made free throws from Osmond. A pair of threes from Allen and sophomore Ali Fleischer (Westwood, Mass.) cut the deficit to 18-15 before the end of the first.

The home team took a lead at 27-26 with 6:45 left in the first half with another three-pointer from Allen but the visitors closed out the second quarter with a strong push from Osmond who scored 10 points in the quarter. Albertus Magnus led 37-31 at the break.

The Falcons outscored the Lasers 18-10 in the third quarter and the lead grew to 55-41 entering the fourth and final period.

Couture scored nine of the Falcons 20 fourth quarter points to secure the win, 75-55.

The Lasers return to conference play at Anna Maria on Saturday, January 25 at 1 p.m. The Falcons seek their third straight win against Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Saturday, January 25 at 1 p.m.
