Women's Hoops Wins Third Straight, 64-59 over Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, N.H. (12/14/13) - The Lasell College women's basketball team won their third straight game on Saturday afternoon, defeating host Plymouth State University 64-59. The Lasers improved to 6-5 on the season with the victory, while Plymouth State dropped to 0-8 for the year. 

Junior forward Alexis Chappell (Springfield, Mass.) finished with a double-double, tallying 16 points on 7-10 shooting and grabbing 10 rebounds. Danielle Autencio (Montville, Conn.) added 11 points and nine rebounds, Molly Lauver (Cambridge, N.Y.) added 12 points and Kayla Vincelette (Westport, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points.

Krystin Corliss (Loudon, N.H.) scored a career-high 34 points and handed out six assists. The senior guard connected on 13 out of 25 shots including knocking down six three pointers as she kept the Panthers in the game.

Trailing 6-2 in the early going, the Lasers ripped off 11 straight points to take a 13-6 lead with 11:36 left in the opening half. Lasell built their lead to 17-8 before Corliss got hot and shot the Panthers into the lead. Corliss made consecutive layups then connected on three straight from behind the arc to tally 13 straight points for the hosts, leaving Lasell trailing 23-22. Lasell scored the final nine points of the half, taking a 31-25 lead into the intermission. 

Plymouth opened the second half on an 8-2 run tying the game at 33-33 but Lasell reclaimed the lead at 39-33 courtesy of a pair of jumpers by Autencio. The Panthers fought their way back into the contest once again, tying the game at 47-47 with 6:25 on the clock. The Lasers ripped off eight straight points, to go in front 55-47 then pushed their advantage to 60-50 with just over two minutes remaining. Plymouth trimmed the Lasers lead to 60-57 before Lasell closed out the game at the free throw line to pick up the 64-59 victory.

Lasell will be off for winter recess, returning to action on January 9th when they visit Keene State at 7:00 p.m. The Panthers will also be off for the holiday break befor evisiting Wentworth on January 2nd at 6:00 p.m.
