
Newton, MA - On Wednesday afternoon the Lasell University softball team hosted the Blazers of Elms College for a doubleheader. They would win both contests by a score of 4-2 and 9-2, improving their GNAC record to 4-0 on the season.
Game 1
Emily Rondeau's RBI double in the bottom of the first started the scoring for the Lasers in game one which put them up 1-0. In the third, the Blazers would draw even on an RBI single by Kelsey Bennett and tied the game at 1-1. In the following inning, the Lasers got their lead back briefly as Madalen Brown singled to bring in Meghan Theall. The Blazers then responded with a run in the top of the 5th to tie the game once again 2-2. Emily Mestas would then come in to score on a passed ball in the bottom of the 5th, and Abigail Fortin added another insurance run in the 6th on an RBI single which pushed the Laser lead to 4-2. Fortin would then come out to finish the game on the mound where she would record the final three outs and capped the complete game effort. She struck out 9 batters in the game and improved to a 3-3 record as a starter this year. Meghan Theall, Mackenzie Still, and Emily Mestas all would record 2 hits each for the Lasers.
Game 2
The Lasers scored early in often in the second game of the back-to-back, racking up 15 total hits as a team for the game. Emily Rondeau once again provided an early run with an RBI single and then Katie Hopkins 2-RBI single scored both Rondeau and Mestas for a 3-run first inning. The Lasers and Blazers then each scored runs in the second and third innings, which made the game 5-2 headed into the bottom of the fourth. Shyanne Raccio would put her stamp on the game with a 2-RBI single and Meghan Theall drove in another Laser run mounting the lead to 8-2. Theall added a final insurance run in the 6th and she would also close the game on the mound as she went the distance for her second win on the year. Katie Hopkins went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored to support the Lasers offensively. Theall (3-for-3, 3 RBIs), Alyssa Bland (2-for-3, 3 runs scored), and Emily Mestas (3-for-4, 2 runs scored), also were very effective in the win.
Up Next - The Lasers will travel to Albertus Magnus on Friday to face the Falcons, with game times set to 1/3 PM.
