WESTON, Mass. - Freshman Mackenzie Still of the Lasell University softball team went a combined 4-of-8 batting, with two runs, two doubles, one triple and one RBI, during a two-game GNAC split at Regis, as the Lasers won Game 2, 4-1, and fell short, 6-1, during the first game Wednesday.

"I have been in a slump the past few games and today it was nice to be able to rally with my team," said Still. "We were lights out on defense, which led to the win in the second game."

The Lasers (12-14, 5-5 GNAC) received great pitching in the second game from sophomore Eryn Sheeley and freshman Meghan Theall. Sheeley worked the first four innings and gave up one earned run and two hits, while striking out four. Theall earned her sixth win of the season, relinquishing no runs and only one hit. Her pitch control was exceptional, as she did not walk a single batter. Sophomore Ally Kirck finished a combined 3 for 5, with two runs against the Pride (9-16, 5-5 GNAC).

"It was difficult to pick up where we left off at a six-run deficit," said Lasell University Softball Head Coach Sarah Woodside. "We could not get our bats going early enough and that unfortunately cost us the game. It was a great effort between Sheeley and Theall in Game 2 to shut Regis' offense down. We were able to string our hits together to pull off a win in Game 2."

Game 2 (Lasell 4, Regis 1):

The Lasers were led by Still (3 of 4, two runs, triple, double, RBI), Emily Mestas (2 for 4, RBI), Angelena Piers (2 of 3, run) and Kirck (2 for 3, run). Sheeley and Theall only allowed a combined three hits to Regis, while the Lasers finished with 11 hits and no errors.

During the top of the first, Still led off with a triple to right, and then scored two at-bats later on a one-run, out-out single by Brianna Gendreau. An RBI single to left with one out by Chloe Beland of Regis in the fourth evened the score at 1-1.

Still connected on the game-winning RBI double to right with one down in the sixth, as Piers scored the winning run. Mestas tallied a one-run bunt single, and then Gendreau ended the scoring with an RBI on a fielder's choice, pushing the lead up to 4-1.

Game 1 (Regis 6, Lasell 1):

The Pride built a 6-0 lead in the first inning, including a two-run single by Ciara Collins, an RBI double from Diana Petrarca and a one-run single by Bianca Burke. Regis led the hits' category, 8-3. Starting pitcher Kate McGrath earned the complete-game win for Regis, allowing no earned runs and striking out 10.

Kirck, Still and Gendreau each tallied one hit for Lasell, while Kirck reached base twice with one walk. Kirck tallied a one-out single to center during the fifth, and then scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.
