Softball: Lasers drop games to Meredith and Wisconsin-La Crosse Monday

LEESBURG, Fla. - Senior Brianna Gendreau of the Lasell University softball team went a combined 3-of-5 batting during a pair of losses to Meredith, 11-2, in six innings and Wisconsin-La Crosse, 9-0, in five innings Monday at Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex.

Sophomore Ally Kirck was strong in the batter's box for the Lasers (1-3) during the first game against the Avenging Angels (5-2), finishing 2 of 3, with one run. During the game against Eagles (6-3), Gendreau went 2 for 2 at the plate.

Game 1 (Meredith 11, Lasell 2 - 6 innings):

The Angels scored four first-inning runs, including RBI singles by Anna Goldman and Kendall Johnson. Freshman Samara Turgeon tallied a single in the bottom of the first, and then two at-bats later, she scored on a sacrifice fly to left by sophomore Katie Hopkins, cutting the deficit down to 4-1.

Meredith extended its lead to 8-1 with four more runs in the second, featuring one-run singles by Alyssa Drake, Goldman, Taylor Walker and Johnson. During the third, Kirck tallied a one-out triple to left-center, and then scored during the ensuing at-bat on a sacrifice fly to left by Turgeon, cutting the Angels' lead to 8-2.

Meredith added some separation with one run in the fourth and two during the sixth, as a one-run, two-out triple to right-center by Brie Caldwell sealed the win during the sixth.

Drake finished 3 of 3 for the Angels, with four runs, two RBIs, two doubles and one walk. Freshman Paige Jette recorded her first collegiate hit for the Lasers. Caldwell earned the win in the circle for Meredith, allowing five hits, two runs and one earned run in six innings, while striking out four and walking one.

Game 2 (Wisconsin-La Crosse 9, Lasell 0 - 5 innings):

The Eagles opened the scoring with a three-run third inning, including a two-run homer by Kyra Lard and an RBI double from Hailey Jibben. Wisconsin-La Crosse added on six more runs during the fourth, as the scoring plays in the inning were a two-run single by Lard, an RBI single by Jibben, a two-run double by Hailey Pitzl and an RBI single by Ellie Yaeger.

Lard compiled a 2-of-4 performance, with four RBIs and two runs, for the Eagles. Ally Eden earned the five-inning victory in the circle, relinquishing four hits and no runs, while striking out six batters.
