SB: Lasell drops two games at Wesleyan; Hector, Truesdale lead Lasers

MIDDLETON, Conn. – Wesleyan University earned a softball doubleheader sweep over Lasell University on Thursday afternoon, 8-0 and 9-3, in the Lasers' first games of the season at the Wesleyan Softball Field.

Junior Bethany Hector (Jaffrey, N.H.) led the Lasers, going 3-for-3 in the twin bill, while classmate Alexis Truesdale (Wakefield, Mass.) had two hits, including a double.

Game 1: Wesleyan 8, Lasell 0 (5 innings)

The Lasers loaded the bases in the top of the first inning on singles by Truesdale and Hector, surrounding senior Victoria Spellman (Rocky Hill, Conn.) being hit by a pitch, but they could not push a run across. The Cardinals put four runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of first inning, and added two more in the third and fourth innings to clinch the victory.

Lasell managed just four hits in the game, two by Hector and one each by Truesdale and freshman Becca Smith (Tewksbury, Mass.).

Junior Nicolette Genkos (Worcester, Mass.) went the distance in the circle for Lasell, suffering the loss.

Game 2: Wesleyan 9, Lasell 3 (5 innings)

Lasell got on the board in the second inning when Hector led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single to center by freshman Bella Richard (Burlington, Mass.).

Wesleyan answered with seven runs in the bottom of the second to take a commanding lead. The Lasers came back with two runs in the top of the third. Freshman Matara Tamzarian (Manchester, N.H.) led off with a bunt single and stole second, Truesdale drew a walk, and both came home on a wild pitch.

Senior Sarah Kline (Vernon, Conn.) also singled to lead off the fifth inning and went to second on a wild pitch but was stranded at second to end the game.

Junior Hannah Doherty (Hampton, N.H.) pitched the first three innings for Lasell and took the loss. Classmate Allie Borowsky (Dalton, Mass.) tossed a scoreless fourth inning.
