SB: Lasell drops first game to Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Albertus Magnus College squeaked out a 2-1 victory over Lasell College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) softball game on a rainy Friday afternoon, but the second game of the doubleheader was postponed in the third inning of a scoreless game due to lightning and rain. No make-up date has been announced.

Albertus moves its record to 17-16 overall and 6-7 in the GNAC, while Lasell slips to 6-29 overall and 2-11 in conference games.

Lasell is slated to play its final home games on Saturday, April 27, against Anna Maria College, beginning at 2 p.m. Albertus Magnus in on tap to wind up the regular season Saturday with a GNAC doubleheader at Regis College, beginning at 1 p.m.

Game 1 – Albertus Magnus 2, Lasell 1

The Falcons scored the only two runs they would need in the first inning. Freshman Kayla Resto (Shelton, Conn.) reached on a one-out error, and senior Marissa Guglielmi (Branford, Conn.) belted a two-out home run.

Lasell cut the deficit in half in the top of the sixth inning when junior Arianna Genovese (Rocky Hill, Conn.) cracked a two-out double to left field, and sophomore Nicolette Genkos (Worcester, Mass.) delivered an RBI single. Sophomore Bethany Hector (Jaffrey, N.H.) singled for Lasell in the seventh inning but the Lasers couldn't push across the tying run.

Laura Anderson earned the complete-game victory (10-4) for Albertus, allowing just one run on six hits and striking out two. Sophomore Hannah Doherty (Hampton, N.H.) pitched well for Lasell but was a tough-luck losing pitcher, allowing just two unearned runs and four hits, striking out four.

Genovese and freshman Lisa Pare (Ellington, Conn.) each had two hits for the Lasers.
