CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lasell College softball team was defeated in a pair of games Tuesday on its Spring Break trip to the National Training Center, falling to Marywood University (Pa.), 7-5, and North Park University (Ill.), 4-3.

The Laser offense combined for eight runs on 16 hits on the day, but couldn't put a win on the board, falling to 0-4 on the season. Junior Victoria Spellman (Rocky Hill, Conn.) led the way for the Lasers, going 4-for-7 with two doubles and a triple in the two games. Marywood finished the day with a 1-3 record and North Park is now 5-1.

Lasell will continue its 10-game Florida trip with two contests on Wednesday, March 13, meeting Gordon College at 11:15 a.m. and SUNY Fredonia at 1:30 p.m.

Game 1 – Marywood 7, Lasell 5

Sophomore Nicolette Genkos (Worcester, Mass.) delivered an RBI single in the first inning to put Lasell on the board, but Marywood plated two runs in each of the first two innings to take a 4-1 lead.

The Lasers rallied to tie the score with three runs in the third inning, as sophomore Bethany Hector (Jaffrey, N.H.) doubled home a run, junior Sarah Kline (Vernon, Conn.) followed with an RBI single, and freshman Kelsey Scannevin (Harpswell, Maine) brought home a run with a fielder's choice. Lasell pulled ahead with another run in the fourth on an RBI single by Genkos, but the Lasers couldn't hold the lead as Marywood scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to pull out the win.

Spellman finished with three hits and three runs scored, and Genkos had two hits and two RBI. Hector, Kline and freshman Lisa Pare (Ellington, Conn.) all collected two hits as well.

Sophomore Hailey Haskins (Franklin, N.H.) started in the circle and took the loss for Lasell, allowing six earned runs in five innings.

Game 2 – North Park 4, Lasell 3

Five of the game's seven runs were scored in the first inning, as the Vikings plated three in the top of the first and Lasell answered with two in the bottom half. Spellman delivered an RBI triple to spark the Laser rally, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Hannah Doherty (Hampton, N.H.).

The Vikings scored what would be the decisive run in the third inning to pull ahead, 4-2. Lasell got one run back in the fifth as freshman Brianna Gendreau (Warren, R.I.) delivered a sacrifice fly to score sophomore Alexis Truesdale (Wakefield, Mass.), who led off the inning with a single and went to third on a walk and a groundout.

Doherty pitched a complete game for the Lasers, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks, striking out two, but suffered her first loss (0-1).
