Softball Takes Home Two Wins on Final Day of Competition in Florida

FORT MYERS, FL-- On the final day of competition at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida, the Lasell College softball came away with two big victories over Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, 5-2, and Fitchburg State College, 2-0. 

 

Lasell scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-1 edge early in the Richard Stockton contest.  The Ospreys only scored one more run in the third inning as Lasell’s pitcher Alison Saluti (Braintree, MA) struck out seven en route to recording her second season victory.  The rookie pitcher now holds a 2-3 overall record on the mound.

 

Talia DeChiara (Kingston, MA) went 2-for-3 at bats, and notched two RBI’s and three putouts in the field.  Michelle Torres (Waltham, MA), Kelly Barden (Quincy, MA), Kelly Silvia (Oaks Bluff, MA), and Ashley Laramie (Lynn, MA) each produced a hit and a run for Lasell.  Silvia also collected an RBI in the game and Marissa McHugh (Plymouth, MA) scored once. 

 

Against regional non-conference rivals Fitchburg State College, Rachelle Haas (Middleton, MA) scored both of the Lasers runs, while also knocking out one double for Lasell.   Haas put the Lasers ahead 1-0 in the first inning and then came around the bases again in the fifth inning.

 

Kirsten Mammola (North Reading, MA) earned her first victory of the season pitching seven innings and striking out two batters.  The junior pitcher currently holds a 1-3 record and a 3.80 era for the year. 

 

Torres, Laramie, and Tricia Culver (Northampton, MA) each had one hit in the game.  DeChiara scored Haas on a sacrifice bunt for her third RBI of the day and made seven outs in the field.  Laramie turned away 10 runners at first base.

 

Lasell begins Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, March 24th when they travel to neighboring Pine Manor College for a double-header, scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
