MXC: Lasell competes at Univ. of New England Invitational

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Lasell University men's and women's cross country teams made the trip to Maine Saturday, competing in the University of New England Invitational at Rotary Park.

Junior Geralson Withrow (Mystic, Conn.) was the top runner for the Laser men, placing 28th out of a field of 132 runners. He covered the 8K course in 28 minutes, 44 seconds. Freshman Zach Kirsch (Winsted, Conn.) placed 79th in 33:03, followed by senior Kyle Mullen (West Newbury, Mass.) in 97th in 34.28 and junior Kevin Wallin (Billerica, Mass.) in 129th in 41.:03. The Lasers had only four runners and did not record a team score,

Sophomore Emma Murray (Wethersfield, Conn.) paced the Laser women, crossing the finish line for the 5K race in 22 minutes, 28 seconds, and placing 60th among 133 competitors. Junior Amanda Miller (New Bedford, Mass.) was next in 65th in 22:50, and freshman Devin McCarthy (West Bridgewater, Mass.) was 81st in 23:32. The rest of the Laser runners included junior Amanda Hawkes (Billerica, Mass.), 90th in 24:16; sophomore Grace West (Kennebunk, Maine), 92nd in 24:19; sophomore Shakira Henriquez (Methuen, Mass.), 93rd in 24:24; and sophomore Emma Vierling (Monmouth, Maine), 96th in 24:32.

The Laser women placed 7th among 13 schools in the meet, ahead of Massachusetts Maritime, Maine Maritime, UMass Boston, Nichols College, Curry College and Northern Vermont-Lyndon and behind Wellesley, Trinity, UNE, Franklin Pierce, St. Joseph's (Maine), and Gordon College.

The next race for the Lasers squads is next Saturday, September 21, at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Invitational.
