Lasell Cross Country runners compete at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Junior Matt Holden (Mehuen, Mass.) and sophomore Amanda Miller (New Bedford, Mass.) were the top finishers for the Lasell College cross country teams Saturday as the Lasers competed in the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Invitational on the UMass Dartmouth campus.

The Lasers competed in the sub-varsity race, and the women's squad placed 13th out of 15 teams. The Laser men did not post a team score as only four runners finished the race. Holy Cross was the top team in the women's scoring, and WPI finished first in the men's scoring.

Holden finished in 84th place among 165 runners in the men's 8K race, crossing the finish line in 31 minutes, 38 seconds. Junior Kyle Mullen (West Newbury, Mass.) was next for Lasell, placing 133rd in 36:05, followed by junior Mark Payton (Barrington, R.I.), 148th in 38:33 (dropping more than two minutes off last week's time), and junior Kevin Wallin (Billerica, Mass.), 155th in 40:31. Lasell's top runner, senior Ryan Dalaba (North Granville, N.Y.) was suffering from an injury and dropped out of the race.

Miller finished in 97th place among 187 athletes in the women's 5K race, completing the course in 23 minutes, one second. Senior Ashlee DeBarros (Dorchester, Mass.) was next, just 12 seconds back, coming in 103rd in 23:13, followed by freshman Grace West (Kennebunk, Maine), 116th in 23:34; freshman Emma Vierling (Monmouth, Maine), 121st in 23:40; and senior Stephanie Seedorf (Massapequa, N.Y.), 149th in 24:56.
