Men's Cross Country Tops GNAC Contenders at UMass Dartmouth Invite

NEWTON, Mass. (9/19/15) – The Lasell College men's cross country team placed 31st overall in the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Invite on Saturday afternoon. The Lasers raced against local conference foes, and came up on top against Emmanuel, Saint Joseph's Maine and Anna Maria.

Sophomore Jeremy Shriber (Central Valley, N.Y.) took the number one spot for the Lasers for the first time this season, and finished 150th overall. Shriber recorded a final time of 28:28.39, establishing a new personal best for the 2015 season. Senior Patrick Sponzo (central Valley, N.Y.) crossed the line next and clocked in at 29:25.02, also a personal best for his 2015 campaign.

Freshman James Phelps (Westbrook, Maine) and sophomore Nick Garifalos (Spotswood, N.J.) piled in next for Lasell, finishing at 29:33.68 and 29:34.85, respectively. Freshman Ryan Dalaba (North Granville, N.Y.) wasn't far behind, as he crept up to the finish line at 30:00.55, a season best.

Freshman Kyle Vonick (Wethersfield, Conn.) sliced two minutes off his time from the UNE Invite, as he finished the course in 30:35.86. Freshman Cameron Wiewel (Kennebunk, Maine) and sophomore Troy Gonsalves (Providence, R.I.) wrapped up the race for Lasell, as they recorded an improved performance of 31:18.66 and 32:12.22, respectively.

The squad will lace up again this Saturday, September 26 for the Elms College Invitational.
