Men's Cross Country Continues Improvement at ECAC Championships

Williamstown, Mass (10/3/12) - The Lasell College men's cross country team continued their trend of improving performances, turning in another quality performance at the ECAC Championships at Williams College. The men finished 32nd overall, 6 places higher than at last season's ECAC meet.

Six Lasell runners improved on their times from September 22nd, when they ran the same 8K course in the Williams College Purple Valley Classic. Freshmen Alex Weselcouch led the Lasers, finishing 123rd overall in a time of 29:35, beating his prior time by 19 seconds. Cameron Weiwel was second across the tape for Lasell finishing 159th overall in a time of 30:26. Weiwel who has come on like gangbusters over the final few weeks of the season beat his time from earlier in the year by 2 minutes and 47 seconds. Kyle Northrop turned in one of his best performances of the season, trimming 1 minute and 47 seconds off his previous race at Williams to finish 163rd overall in 30:31.

Patrick Sponzo finished 228th in 32:30, a full 47 seconds faster then five weeks ago. Andrew Panther, who didn't race the last time at Williams finished 237th in a time of 32:44. Isaac Montoya finished 247th in a time of 33:00, a full minute and 49 seconds faster than the last time at Williams. Conor Devlin trimmed 53 seconds off his September 22nd appearance at Williams, finishing 254th in a time of 33:15.

Amherst, Bates, Williams, Tufts and Middlebury finished in the top five overall at the meet.

The men will look to contine to their trend of peaking at the end of the year when they conclude their 2012 season at the NCAA Regional meet on Saturday November 10th.
