Donis Leads Lasers at NCAA New England Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- Forty-nine men's cross country teams converged for the NCAA New England Regional Championship hosted by Williams College on Saturday, featuring over 300 competitors racing along the 8k course. Lasell College got a top individual performance from sophomore Raymon Donis (Raynham, MA) who clocked a 30:43.9 at the Championship.

 

MIT won the men's Championship title with 93 points, placing three runners in the top 15.  The Regional hosts Williams College (101 points) earned second place with two top-15 performances.  Both MIT and Williams will move forward and compete in the National Championship in Iowa next weekend earning automatic bids into the race.  As many as three additional teams from across the country will also earn at-large bids as well as the top seven individuals whose teams did not qualify for the national championship will move on to Iowa to complete individually. Brandeis University took third-place honors at the Regional Championship with 139 points.

 

Lasell finished 45th as a team with seven individual performances.  Donis was just 12 seconds from his personal-best time on the challenging course which spans hills, woods, and grass fields.   Miguel Taveras (Lawrence, MA) came in second for Lasell with a time of 31:49.1 at Regional and was followed by senior captain Kristopher McCabe (Kingston, NY) who ran a time of 32:27.1.  Sophomore Mikhail Krevosky (Oxford, MA) and freshman Charlie Dilella (Branford, CT) closed the course just four seconds apart with times of 33:46.5 and 33:50.4.  Juniors Grant Vantine (Fitchburg, MA) and Michael Isherwood (Warwick, RI) rounded out the squad finishing in 35:20.3 and 36:45.0 respectively.

 

The 2010 Lasell men's cross country campaign came to its conclusion at the NCAA Regional Championship.
