Men's Track & Field: Lasers finish third at the Regis Spring Classic

Weston, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers men's track & field team finished third overall, and just eight points off first place in the Regis Spring Classic, held at Regis College Friday afternoon.

Junior Ben Abely (Stonington, Conn.) finished in first place in the 100 meter dash, finishing in a time of 11.69 seconds. Sophomore Kadeem Ambroise (Brookline, Mass.) was the second point scorer in the even as he finished fourth with a personal record time of 11.99 seconds. Freshman Max Corson (Peabody, Mass.) made it so all three Lasers competing in the 100 meter dash scored points as he finished sixth with a time of 12.40 seconds.

Abely kept up his strong performance by finishing second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.42 seconds. Ambroise made it two straight fourth place finishes and a second straight personal record as his time of 24.14 seconds made it two Lasers in point scoring positions. Corson also competed in the event finishing 15th with a time of 25.16 seconds.

Sophomore Patrick Carbone (Peabody, Mass.) was the high finisher in the 400 meter dash as he secured a fourth place finish with his time of 58.85 seconds. Finishing right behind him was freshman Spencer Villinski (Pittsfield, Mass.) with a time of 59.11 seconds. Junior Franklin Torres (Cranston, R.I.) also competed in the 400 meter dash finishing with a time of 1:07.89 seconds.

Freshman Brady Mackechnie (East Longmeadow, Mass.) broke the school record in the 110 meter hurdle as his time of 17.11 seconds secured the first place finish. Villinski finished third for the Lasers in a time of 18.49 seconds and graduate student Jordan Robertson (Warsaw, N.Y.) finished fifth with a time of 20.27 seconds.

Mackechnie followed up his 110 meter hurdle performance by breaking another school record in the 400 meter hurdle and securing a first place finish with a time of 1:00.11 seconds. Robertson also competed in the event and finished third with a time of 1:09.58 seconds.

The third school record of the day was broken in the 4x100 meter relay as the team of Abely, Corson, Ambroise, and Mackechnie topped the record books and the time sheet with a time of 45.74 seconds.

The Lasers also competed in the 4x400 meter relay as the team of Mackechnie, Carbone, Robertson, and Villinski finished in fifth place with a time of 3:54.10 seconds.

Corson was the highest finisher for the Lasers in the long jump finishing second with a distance of 5.53 meters and close behind was junior Zachary Kirsch (Winsted, Conn.) finishing in third with a jump of 5.50 meters.

A fourth school record fell in the triple jump as Kirsch put his name in the record books as his first-place effort of 11.82 meters was good for first place.

Junior Richard Barlett (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) was the highest finisher in the shot put with a furthest throw of 10.56 meters. Torres was the second highest finisher for Lasell finishing in 13th with a distance of 8.82 meters and sophomore Connor Parker (Rutland, Vt.) finished 14th with a best throw of 8.29 meters.

Parker topped the Lasers in the discus as his throw of 26.19 meters was good for 10th place and marked a personal best. Torres was shortly behind in 12th place with a best throw of 24.03 meters.

The final event the Lasers competed in was the Javelin throw where Mackechnie finished in seventh with a distance of 39.23 meters. Barlett closely followed as his best throw of 38.25 meters was good for eighth and junior Cameron Deniso (Scarborough, Mass.) finished 10th with a distance of 32.40 meters.

The Lasers will be back in action on Saturday, April 16, when they travel to Southern New Hampshire University for the Penman Relays.
