Men's Track & Field: Mackechnie breaks two school records at first outdoor event of the season

Dartmouth, Mass. – Freshman Brady Mackechnie (East Longmeadow, Mass.) broke school records in the 110 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles as the Lasell University Lasers men's track & field team competed in their first outdoor event of the year at the Corsair Classic Track & Field Invitational, Saturday at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.

"It was great to be outside again!" said graduate student Jordan Robertson (Warsaw, N.Y.). "It was nice to see that everyone was cheering people when their teammates were competing. I am so proud of everyone today and can't wait to see what the rest of the season will be for us this year"

Junior Ben Abely (Stonington, Conn.) was the high finisher in the 100 meter dash finishing 13th with a time of 11.55 seconds which marked his personal best time. Also competing in the 100 meter was sophomore Kadeem Ambroise (Brookline, Mass.) who finished 24th with a time of 12.06 seconds, freshman Max Corson (Peabody, Mass.) finishing in 27th with a time of 12.18 seconds and junior Franklin Torres (Cranston, R.I.) finishing 42nd with a time of 13.92 seconds.

Abely was also the top finisher for Lasell in the 200 meter finishing 11th with a time of 23.54 seconds. The other runner in the 200 meter was Ambroise who finished 28th in 25.21 seconds.

Mackechnie was the highest finisher in the 110 meter hurdle finishing 7th with his school record time of 17.18 seconds. Robertson also ran in the 110 meter hurdle finishing in 14th with a time of 20.39 seconds.

The 400 meter hurdle also saw Mackechnie be the highest Laser finisher in 9th with another school record time of 1:03.48. Robertson finished in 17th in the event with a time of 1:09.57.

Lasell also broke a school record with their 4x100 meter team that consisted of Abely, Corson, Ambroise and Mackecknie that finished in fourth overall with a time of 45.74 seconds.

Lasell also competed in the 4x400 with Mackechnie, Robertson, Torres, and junior Zachary Kirsch (Winsted, Conn.) making up the team that finished 11th with a time of 4:07.53.

The high jump saw two Lasers finish back-to-back with Corson finishing in 15th with a distance of 4.99 meters and Kirsch in 16th with a distance of 4.93 meters.

Krisch was the only Lasers competing in the triple jump where he placed 11th with a distance of 11.37 meters.

The Lasers only had one compete in the shot put and that was sophomore Isaac Goldberg (Framingham, Mass.) who placed 32nd with a best throw of 6.77 meters.

Torres finished 24th overall in the discus throw with a best throw of 25.46 meters.

The final event that Lasell had someone competing in was the javelin throw where junior Cameron Deniso (Sacarborough, Mass.) placed 30th with a best throw of 35.12 meters.

The next event for the Lasers will be on Friday, April 8, when they go to Regis College for the Regis Spring Classic.
