MT&F: Lasers open indoor season at Springfield College Season Opener

Springfield, Mass. - The Lasell University men's track and field team competed in its first indoor meet since 2019 Saturday morning. The Springfield College Season Opener at the Springfield College Field House featured five Division III collegiate programs and one Division II collegiate program.

Sophomore Patrick Carbone (Peabody, Mass.) was a top finisher for the Lasers as he placed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.57. Also competing in the 400 meter was graduate student Jordan Robertson (Warsaw, N.Y.) with a time of 1:05.73 finishing fifth and right behind him in sixth was junior Franklin Torres (Cranston, R.I.).

Senior Joan Guzman (Nantucket, Mass.) competed in both the 600 meter run and the 1 mile run, finishing 17th in the 600 meter with a time of 1:42.53 and 22nd in the 1 mile with a time of 5:25.46.

The Lasers had four people compete in the 60 meter dash and finishing tops of those competing was junior Ben Abely (Stonington, Conn.) who was 20th in 7.44 seconds. Behind him was senior James Falzone (Waltham, Mass.), who was 31st in 7.94 seconds, freshman Julian Vesneske (Brookline, Mass.), who was 36th in 8.17 seconds, and Torres who finished 40th with a time of 8.70 seconds.

Freshman Max Corson (Peabody, Mass.) finished 13th in the long jump with a distance of 5.50 meters. Junior Zach Kirsch (Winsted, Conn.) competed in both the long jump and triple jump finishing 15th in long jump with a distance of 5.30 meters and seventh in triple jump with a distance of 11.88 meters.

Lasell had two athletes compete in the shot put with junior Richard Barlett (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) placing 10th with a distance of 11.06 meters and sophomore Connor Parker (Rutland, Vt.) who placed 15th with a distance of 7.67 meters.

The Lasers will compete again on Saturday, January 15, in the Reggie Poyau Invitational at Brandis University.
