MSOC: Lasers Conquer Blazers in 4-0 Victory, Qualify for GNAC Play-In

Newton, MA - The Lasell Men's Soccer team hosted the Blazers of Elms College on Tuesday afternoon in their last regular season home match.

The Lasers' final game of the 2024 regular season stint had some playoff implications as they squared off with the Blazers of Elms for a play-in berth for the GNAC playoffs. The Lasers wasted no time as in the first minute of the game the ball found Dillon Winkelmann on the left side of the box which he placed into the net and gave the Lasers an early 1-0 lead.

The scoring would go silent for most of the first period following this as neither team was able to find the net again until late in the final minute of the first 45:00. It was Winkelmann again who got the ball to score, this time off a great cross from Pumi Maphumulo. This gave the Lasers a 2-0 lead going into the halftime break.

Just a few minutes into the second half, Winkelmann repaid Maphumulo giving him a feed in the box to put the Lasers up 3-0. Soon thereafter, a free kick was awarded about 30 yards out on the Blazer's side of the field. The Lasers executed a perfect set piece which Michael Guzzone played to Daniel Augustine who played it across and found Ryan Klopchin for his first goal of the year.

The all-around great effort was also solidified by goalie Antonio Centracchio who pitched the first clean sheet of the year for the Lasers. The game also marked the first time dating back to October 12th, 2024 that the Lasers won a game by 3 or more goals.

Up Next - The Lasers will travel to Rivier this Thursday for their GNAC Play-In game, with a 7:00 start.
