Newton, MA - The Lasell Men's Soccer Team faced off against the Amcats of Anna Maria on Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field.
The Lasell Men's Soccer Team honored their seniors as part of Family, Friends, and Alumni weekend. Graduating seniors include: Antonio Centracchio, Cameron McDonough, John Pryce, Jake Flad, Michael Guzzone, Jonathan Leone, John Zaslow, Shane Previti, and Daniel Faynstein. Facing off against a tough opponent in the Amcats (8-3-2,6-4-2), the Lasers knew they would be in for a battle. That didn't prevent them for striking first though as a deflected pass from Dillon Winkelmann found Mpumelelo Maphumulo in the 11th minute. A revolving door of goalie changes in the first half also didn't stop the Lasers from pitching a shutout in the first 45 minutes. Both seniors Cameron McDonough and Antonio Centracchio dealt with injuries in the first 20 minutes of the game. This left it up to sophomore keeper Aidan Heipler to come in relief for the Lasers. He was able to hold down the net well and boasted 4 saves on the day. Going into the second half, Anna Maria found an early equalizer to tie up the game 1-1 just under 10 minutes into the second. The Lasers kept up their offensive pressure and on a great find from freshman Johnny Celli, Dillon Winkelmann was able to get past the keeper and give the Lasers a 2-1 advantage. Nearly 10 minutes later, it was Celli again with a very familiar feed over the top which hit Mpumelelo Maphumulo as he notched his second assist on the day giving the Lasers a 3-1 edge. With time winding down, a crazy pinball inside the box was able to find the net for the Amcats which closed the gap to 3-2 going into the final minutes. The Lasers held serve, by winding clock, and pick up a big win on Senior Day.
Up Next - The Lasers will host Colby-Sawyer at home on Wednesday afternoon.
