MSOC: Two late second-half goals lift Lasell over Colby-Sawyer to clinch playoff berth

Newton, Mass. - The Lasell Men's Soccer team faced off in a critical conference match-up with the Colby-Sawyer Chargers at Taylor Field Saturday afternoon.

How it happened: It was quite an intense and chippy game as both teams fought for a potential playoff spot. The Chargers were the first to strike on the board in the game in the first half at the 14 minute mark to go up 1-0. Then, about 9 minutes later, Sophomore Forward Daniel Faynstein netted in a goal with the help of a corner kick assist from Freshman Midfielder Liam Thompson to tie it up at 1 apiece leading into the end of the half. Both teams traded shots back and forth throughout the second half in an attempt to get ahead. In the 85th minute, a Colby-Sawyer goal put the Chargers up 2-1 and it looked like the life of the Lasers were taken right out of them. However, the Lasers did not want to go away. Just about a minute later, Sophomore Midfielder Koki Matsuwaki tied it up at 2 apiece with the assist being from Ryan Klopchin with the crowd roaring. A minute later, Faynstein would come through in the clutch with a season-saving/game-winning goal with the help of Matsuwaki to put Lasell up 3-2 as the crowd erupted in response to the offensive firepower late in the contest. The Chargers tried to get a chance to tie it up but fell short as the Lasers defeated the Chargers. This win clinched the Lasell Men's Soccer team a playoff berth with their last appearance being in 2019.
