MSOC: Lasers fall short against conference foe Rivier

Newton, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers men's soccer team fell to the Rivier University Raiders, 3-2, Wednesday at Taylor Field.

Senior Jake Ouellette (East Granby, Conn.) had a pair of goals for the Lasers.

Rivier got on the board first in the 19th minute when graduate student Pedro Campos (Downey, CA) crossed the ball in from the right edge of the box toward freshman Hayden Bilodeau (Windham, ME), who headed it towards goal into the bottom left corner. The Raiders struck again in the 39th minute when freshman Cody Sicard (Salem, NH) whipped in the corner kick from the left corner to the far post finding junior Chris Antonelli (Commack, NY) heading it into the corner.

A key moment in the middle of the second half came when senior Zack Laware (Wilbraham, Mass.) jumped high and to his right saving a Raider penalty.

The Lasers clawed one back in the 69th minute when Ouellette took a free kick from well past the 18-yard box on the left side and found the side netting of the far post over the keeper. The Raiders pushed the lead back to two in the 84th minute when freshman Ryan Hadouche (Nashua, NH) stood over a penalty and strongly put it past the keeper's right.

Ouellette added a second to his tally when he found the ball at his feet following a long throw-in on the right sideline from senior Chris Belliveau (Peabody, Mass.) and kicked it with his right foot into the back corner.

The stats were fairly even between the teams with Rivier topping the Lasers in shots 15-13, while the Lasers grabbed the edge in corner kicks 4-2.

The Lasers will be back in action Sunday, September 19, when they take on Union College (NY), with a scheduled 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
