Men's Soccer Remains Undefeated With 3-1 Victory At Gordon

Wenham, Mass. - In a non-conference men's soccer duel between Lasell College and the host Fighting Scots, the visiting Lasers used a pair of second half goals to secure a 3-1 win and remain unbeaten on the year at 4-0 while the Scots drop to 1-3-1 overall.

With both teams firing shots in the opening minutes, the first viable scoring opportunity came for Lasell just before the 18th minute on a slot pass from central midfield to the top of the area. Keeper
Ryan Coil(Brentwood, Tenn.) came off his line to make the stop, but a collision with defender Eric Ernst(Ridgecrest, Calif.) and a Lasell forward left him injured on the play and the goal exposed for Lasell's Bako Sokol (Roslindale, Mass.) to give his team the early 1-0 lead.

That lead held until the 41st minute when Gordon midfielder
Andy Guthrie(Beaver Falls, Pa.) buried the equalizer on a direct kick from 24 yards out to put the Scots back in the game. Lasell's Mike Skelton (Conway, N.H.) took charge offensively down the stretch of the second half, however, netting the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute on a one v. one in the area and converting a penalty kick for insurance in the 84th minute to lift the Lasers to the two-goal win.

Coil and reserve keeper
Tim Hardy(Gorham, Maine) combined for 14 saves in the loss, while Lasell netminder Miguel Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) recorded four saves for the win.

The Scots travel to Salve Regina University for their first conference matchup of the year on Saturday, Sept. 15., while Lasell will take on Brandeis on the same day at 1:00p.m.
