
Newton, MA - The Lasell College men's soccer team defeated Rhode Island College 3-2 to bring home the title from the third annual Kick-Off Classic Sunday afternoon at Weymouth High School.
Emmanuel Asiedu opened the scoring in the 15th minute for RIC, giving the visitors a 1-0 edge early in the match. Lasell's Mike Skelton netted his second goal of the young season in the 27th minute to even the match at 1-1 and turn the momentum back to the hosts. Senior Brennan Adams put the Lasers on top 2-1 with a scoring strike on an assist from freshman Conor Fitzgerald in the 42nd minute, sending Lasell into halftime with the lead.
Adams tallied again thirty seconds into the second half, courtesy of an assist from Nery Guerra that put Lasell ahead 3-1. The Lasers continued to threaten with some quality chances, but didn't score again. Asiedu netted his second goal of the match and third of the season in the 77th minute to draw the Anchormen within a goal, but Lasell held on for a 3-2 victory.
Miguel Colmenares collected his second win of the season in net for Lasell, as the Lasers improved to 2-0 on the 2012 campaign. Lasel will return to the pitch on Saturday September 8th when they travel to Emmanuel College for their Great Northeast Athletic Conference fixture at 1pm.
