Cadets Upset Lasers in GNAC Action

NORTHFIELD, VT-  Norwich University men's soccer erupted with four goals in the second half to upset Lasell College, 4-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Howard Field. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss is the first of the season for the Lasers who land at 6-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference.  The Cadets even out at 3-3 in league play while still remaining under .500 overall at 5-7 this season.

 

The first half of soccer came-and-went without a goal though Lasell out shot Norwich 11-8.  Three of Lasell's shots were on target in the frame while Norwich got off no chances on-goal. 

 

The second half commenced with an immediate goal just 53 seconds into action as Joe Young scored on a side volley off an assist from Wesley Keslin.  Ryan Robertson then added a pair of marks in a four minute span for his first and second goal of the season.  Robertson first scored at 57:16 off a pass from Pedro Rodriguez and then brought the score to 3-0 with an assist from Young.

 

Garrett Shufelt tallied an unassisted goal in the 86th minute to cap scoring.  Shufelt, the Cadet's leading scorer, drove in a free kick from 20 yards out which bounced off the inside post and into net.

 

Lasell's Aren Moorman (Somerset, NJ) was hit with the loss in net while Norwich goalie Christian Hallstrom posted the win with five saves.  Hallstrom also received help from defender Chris Bristol who made a kick save on a header by Lasell's Mike Skelton (Conway, NH) in the 30th minute of the contest.

 

The Lasers will look to get back on track on Saturday, October 8th with a home contest against Suffolk University slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Taylor Field.
