NEWTON, MA—For the second time during the 2010 season, junior goal keeper Matthew Bruninghaus (Plymouth, MA) has earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Goal Keeper of the Week honors.
Bruninghaus was selected for the award after a 1-1-1 week for the Lasers, during which time he spent 299 minutes between the pipes, made 31 saves, and recorded one shutout.
Though the outcome did not always shine in the Lasers favor this week, Bruninghaus had an outstanding week playing against top Division III men's soccer programs. He started the week with a 2-0 shutout over Johnson & Wales University in GNAC action, making six saves in his fourth shutout of the season. Lasell then faced Centennial Conference powerhouse Haverford College on Wednesday. Bruninghaus denied 14 chances on goal for the Fords in that contest though the Lasers ultimately fell in the final seconds of overtime, 2-1.
In the final contest of the week, Lasell faced Albertus Magnus College on Saturday afternoon during Family, Friends and Alumni Weekend, succumbing to a 2-2 stalemate after two overtime sessions on Grellier Field. Bruninghaus made 11 saves in the conference tussle.
Over the course of the week, the veteran goalie averaged 10.33 saves per game, held a .885 save percentage and a 1.33 goals against average.
Bruninghaus currently holds a 6-5-2 season record in the net, playing in over 1,200 minutes. He is ranked 2nd in the GNAC in shutouts (4), 3rd in GAA (1.33) and save percentage (.824), and 5th in total saves (84) and saves per game (6.46). He is also ranked nationally in the NCAA amongst all Division III men's soccer goal keepers in GAA (132nd), saves per game (99th), and save percentage (73rd).
