Dybaud Scores Hat Trick as Lasers Down Raiders

Newton, MA— Cedric Dybaud (Quincy, MA) recorded his first collegiate hat-trick in Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer action as Lasell College downed Rivier College, 9-1, on Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field. In addition to Dybaud's trifecta of goals, Nery Guerra (Guatemala), Dan Hatch (Avon, MA), and Eric Fournier (Meriden, CT) each tallied two goal apiece in the conference showdown. With the GNAC win, Lasell improves to 4-3 this season, and remains undefeated, at 3-0, in the Conference.  Rivier drops to 1-7 overall, and 0-3 in league play.

Lasell struck early and often and was in command of the game throughout, outshooting the visitors 42-8 and earning eight corner kick chances to Rivier's two.  Raider starting goal keeper John Jarvis (Henniker, NH) made 12 saves in 57 minutes of competition.  Lasell's keeper Matthew Bruninghaus (Plymouth, MA) made three saves in a complete game, earning his fourth season victory.

Hatch opened the scoring in the 11th minute when he connected on a long cross from Marcus Lopez (Barrigada, Guam). Rivier followed the shot within six minutes on their sole mark of the contest when Chris Nugent (Camberley, Surrey, England) drilled a shot which was only partially deflected by Bruninghaus and made its way into the Lasers net to even the score at one-all.

Between the 21st and the 25th minute, Guerra scored twice, interrupted by Hatch's second goal.   Lasell was awarded a penalty kick at 20:59 which Guerra snuck right inside the left post corner, followed by Hatch chipping in a goal in a one-on-one situation with Jarvis.  Guerra's second tally came from a Jonathan Klippert (Cumberland, ME) cross from the left field.

Lasell's fifth marker came in the 39th minute when Fournier disentangled himself from a crowd of defenders and finished to the lower left corner.

With just 18 ticks left on the clock in the first period, Dybaud began his string of goals, scoring on a breakaway through multiple Raider defenders. Lasell took a comfortable 6-1 edge into the break.

Dybaud began the second half with an unassisted goal one minute and 49 seconds into the period.  The freshman midfielder took a header which careened off the cross bar and revisited Dybaud for a second-chance shot.  The second time, Dybaud placed the ball in the back of the net.

Fournier put in his second goal at 48:32, and Dybaud capped all scoring with less than three minutes in the contest, to seal the 9-1 victory.

Lasell will face non-conference foe Bridgewater State University next Wednesday, September 29th, at 4:00 p.m.
