Late Goal Clinches Anchormen Victory Over Lasell

PROVIDENCE, RI- Sophomore midfielder Liam Treacy (Warwick, RI) buried his first goal of the season in the 87th minute to lift the Rhode Island College men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Lasell College Wednesday night .

Lasell controlled possession for the majority of the first half, and jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead 12:32 the contest.  Sophomore fullback Adam Luciano (Fairfield, CT) lobbed a controlled pass from inside the Lasers' eighteen to freshman midfielder Marcus Lopez (Barrigada, Guam) who poked through defenders to head the ball past RIC's junior goalkeeper Nic Clark (East Providence, RI).

Rhode Island ignited in the second half, coming out in a whirlwind which resulted in the Lasers trailing 12-2 in shot attempts in the period.  Laser goalkeeper Matthew Bruninghaus (Plymouth, MA) was tested on repeat during the first fifteen minutes of the period.  However, it was not until 60:43 that the Anchormen evened the score as Bruno Costa (Pawtucket, RI) redirected a free kick from Treacy with his head for RIC's first mark.

Despite the visiting Lasers trailing 12-2 in shots over the second period, the game looked to be headed for an extra session.  With just 3:20 remaining, the Anchormen were awarded a free kick on a foul from 26 yards out.  Sophomore defender Tucker Shepard (Tiverton, RI) drove the free kick into the box, which Costa deflected to a waiting Treacy.  After settling the pass, Treacy let loose the game-winning shot.

Bruninghaus made nine saves in the Lasers' second setback of the season.

Lasell is now 1-2 overall and will begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference competition on Saturday, September 11th at 2:30 p.m. when the Lasers will face neighboring rivals Mount Ida College at Taylor Field.
