Waltham, Mass-- The Brandeis University men's soccer team shut out visiting Lasell College on Tuesday night with a 2-0 triumph under the lights on Gordon Field. The Judges scored a goal in each half on the way to their second straight win. Lasell finishes the 2009 regular season with a 9-5-3 record.
Brandeis scored the only goal it would need in the 26th minute of the contest. Rookie midfielder Joe Eisenbies (Hingham, Mass.) crossed a pass to junior midfielder Kyle Gross (Medway, Mass.) at the top of the eighteen. Gross drove the ball past a Lasell defender and the Lasers' senior goalkeeper Julian Dutton (Madison, Conn.) for a 1-0 lead.
Shots in the first half were 8-6 in favor of the hosts, with six of the Judges' attempts being on goal.
After the break, Brandeis cushioned their lead with an own goal that was misdirected by a Laser defender. Lee Russo (Westford, Mass.) began the play with a direct shot towards the Lasers net, but the ball was deflected off a Lasell player before entering the net.
Dutton finished with six saves in the net for Lasell and rookie midfielder Mike Skelton (Conway, NH) produced five shot attempts for the Lasers.
Lasell hosts the first round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday, October 31st at 1:00 p.m.
