CADETS GIVE LASERS FIRST LEAGUE LOSS

Drew Dilley (Lancaster, PA) scored twice, lifting the Cadets of Norwich University past the Lasell Lasers, 3-0, in a battle between the GNAC men's soccer teams today, on Taylor Field.

Dilley opened the game with a goal from short right field, fed by Ryan Boyton (Dunedin, FL), at 6:22.  Though the Cadets had the lead, the Lasers were dominant in the first half, outshooting Norwich 16-8.  Shane Vinnicombe (Pomfret Center, CT) made an attempt at tying the game at the 21st minute for the Lasers, with a beautiful shot from high in the eighteen, but unfortunately for the Lasers, the shot hit the post and then was picked up by Cadet goalie Charles Maxwell (Pittsford, NY) to retain their lead.

The second half opened with Vinnicombe finding another prime opportunity for the Lasers to score getting around Maxwell, but was halted by Kyle Przekaza (Northfield, VT) and Devin Buoniello (Lake Grove, NY) on Norwich's defense.

Jake Yaris (Raymond, NH) knocked home a goal at the 62nd minute on a cross from the right side from Roger Motaze (Cameroon) to cushion the Cadet lead.  And Dilley completed the scoring in the final 12 seconds of the game, once again assisted by Boyton.

Throughout the game, the Lasers outshot the Cadets 26-17, and had 10 more corner kick opportunities. Vinnicombe took 7 total shots while Zach Gagne (Somerset, MA) produced 5 for the Lasers.

Despite the loss, Lasell's goalkeeper Matthew Bruninghaus (Plymouth, MA) played extremely well, making some extraordinary saves, and stopping eight total Norwich shots.  Maxwell also picked up 8 saves for the Cadets.

This is the first league loss for the Lasers this season, who drop to 4-5-0 overall, and 3-1-0 in the GNAC.  With this win, the Cadets take over the current top rank in the league, which was previously held by the Lasers.

On Saturday, October 4th, the Lasers take on Albertus Magnus at 12:00 p.m. on Taylor Field.
