LASERS BLAST PAST WILDCATS

Newton, Mass.- The Lasers turned around a scoreless first half to beat the visiting Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University, 3-0, in their final regular season GNAC matchup.  The Lasers have an 8-1-0 conference record this season, while the Wildcats have a 3-5-0 league record.

The first half was a wash, with each team producing shots, but coming up short.  Lasell had some prime opportunities to take the lead, once when Shane Vinnicombe (Pomfret Center, CT) drilled a shot at Wildcats keeper Joe Ferraro (Freehold, NJ) who made a diving kick save, followed by Zach Gagne (Somerset, MA) who booted the ball from the top of the eighteen and just missed the top of the goal.

With the score still 0-0, and just less than 35 minutes remaining in the game, Vinnicombe sent a leading pass to the middle of the field to Dan Hatch (Avon, MA), who maneuvered with skill around Ferraro and scored on the Wildcats to break open the game for the Lasers.

Hatch's goal was followed by another, at 71:26, when Lasell's Tholemson Francois (Stoughton, MA) launched a beautiful cross pass to Gagne who finished the shot and added to the Lasers edge.

With ten minutes remaining, Lasell's freshman goalkeeper Matthew Bruninghaus (Plymouth, MA) scooped up a Wildcat shot on goal, and then proceeded to clear the ball to Joshua Martinez (Milton, MA) who forwarded the pass to Francois, culminating in the final Lasell goal.

Bruninghaus had three saves and the shutout, while Ferraro picked up five saves in the defeat.

The Lasers are on a seven game winning streak heading into their final regular season game on Tuesday, October 28th. Lasell will challenge Brandeis University, at 3:30 p.m., on Taylor Field.
