
Chicopee, MA - On Saturday the Lasers wrapped up their regular season on the road versus Elms College.
The Lasers knew that a win on Saturday would earn them the #2 seed in the GNAC Tournament and wasted no time in getting out to an early lead. In the first five minutes, the Lasers catapulted themselves in front in the form of a 14-0 run. Four of five Laser starters contributed buckets on the run and the defense held the Blazers scoreless, forcing multiple turnovers. At the midway point of the first, the Laser lead had already grown to more than 20, as a Conan McCusker 3-pointer gave them a 30-9 lead. The outside shooting for the Lasers was a large part of their advantage as they hit 12 triples on the day, half of which came in a 52-point first half. They outshot the Blazers 12-4 over the course of the game which gave them a 24-point positive differential in the category.
In the second half, the hot scoring continued as Marcus Lewis, Che Hanks, Karim Belhouchet, and Conan McCusker all notched multiple threes and helped put the game out of reach. Leading by as many as 34, the Lasers ended the game taking their largest victory of the season 91-57.
Marcus Lewis led all scorers on Saturday with 24 points hitting 4 threes and also adding in 9 rebounds. Karim Belhouchet tacked on 16 points and Che Hanks tallied 15. Conan McCusker shot the ball well off the bench hitting 3 threes of his own. The Madesko brothers both played the role of finding open teammates on the afternoon with the two combining for 13 of the 21 Laser assists.
The Lasers would finish with a 12-2 record in conference play which is their best-ever conference record in the regular season. The win also locked them into the #2 seed for the GNAC Tournament in which they'll have a first-round bye.
