Newton, MA - The Lasell men's basketball team hosted the Bulldogs of Dean College on Tuesday night.
In a highly energetic first half, Andy Madesko struck first, powering his way to the rack to open the scoring. Through the first media timeout the game was close with a 9-6 edge for the Lasers. Through the next several minutes, Esmer Madesko and Che Hanks took turns putting the ball in the cup as they were able to gain some more distance 17-10. Going just under six minutes to go in the half, a three from Daniel Edmonds made the Laser lead 9, 23-14 and shortly thereafter the Lasers held leads of up to 14 going on some short scoring runs. Going into the break the Lasers had an 11-point, 39-28 lead.
On the first play of the second half, Andy Madesko found Marcus Lewis on a backcut which resulted in an easy layup and helped to set the tone for another Laser run. Another bucket by Lewis and pullup jumper by Karim Belhouchet made it 17, forcing Dean to call a timeout. Slowly mounting the lead to up to 23, the early second half surge was too much for Dean to recover from. Although they cut the lead down to as little as 8 points late, the Lasers ended up earning a 87-78 victory.
Esmer Madesko led all scorers on the evening with 24 points. He was one of five Lasers in double figures with Marcus Lewis (13), Daniel Edmonds (13), Andy Madesko (11), and Che Hanks (10) all being key contributors.
Up Next - The Lasers will be on the road at Anna Maria on Saturday looking to continue their perfect conference record.
