MBB: Big First Half Leads to Road Win Over Fitchburg State

Fitchburg, MA - Lasell took on Fitchburg State on Saturday afternoon.

Coming off a tough road loss to the Panthers of Plymouth State, another road game lay ahead against the Falcons of Fitchburg State. Esmer Madesko set the tone in the game as he came out and scored the first four points of the game. After a series of small runs, the game sat at 16-12 with Lasell holding a 4-point lead. From this point on, however, Lasell would go on to outscore the Falcons 35-17 in the rest of the half including a 13-2 run which was capped by a Marcus Lewis 3-pointer, pushing the lead at the time to 18. Taking a 22-point advantage into the half, Lasell had to like where they were at but needed to keep their foot on the gas still.

In the second half, they did not push their lead up and were outscored in the end by 5 (44-39) by the Falcons, but held a double-digit lead throughout, not letting the Falcons get back into striking distance. The Falcons did have some runs but they were halted by Laser responses, fending them off in a final score of 90-73.

All five starters scored in double-figures for Lasell with Marcus Lewis (23) and Esmer Madesko (22) leading the scoring column. Esmer matched his career-high of 22 which he also had last game, and now makes it 3 games in a row in which he has scored 20+. He also has earned back-to-back GNAC Rookie of the Week awards averaging 21.3 points 5 rebounds and 5 assists in last week's game. The other Lasers starters Che Hanks, Andy Madesko, and Cameron Foster-Martez had 12, 12, and 10 points respectively on the night.

Up Next - The Lasers will have over a week off and come back after the Thanksgiving holiday to host the Vikings of Salem State on Tuesday, December 3rd at 7 PM.
