Newton, MA - Lasell men's basketball had their home opener versus Wheaton College on Tuesday night.
The Lasers came into Tuesday night coming off a great opening road win at Husson. The Lyons (1-2) had come in facing two GNAC opponents already, losing to St. Joseph (ME) and beating Anna Maria. Wheaton got off to a hot start in this game as Markus Nordin hit back-to-back threes in the corner giving them a quick 6-0 advantage. After going up 8-2 however, the Lasers regrouped and rattled off an 11-4 run, forcing the Lyons to take a timeout. From this point on the Lasers didn't look back as they held the lead for the rest of the game. After the slow start, the Lasers ended the half leading 36-26 and would expand the lead in the second half leading by as much as 23. The Lyons would try to chip away at this lead but simply didn't have enough time, with a final score of 76-59.
A common trend to start the year for the Lasers has been the play of the brothers Esmer and Andy Madesko. Esmer had another solid showing off the bench scoring 12 points and his brother Andy had a near triple-double on the evening with a statline of 11 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, and also 5 steals. Senior Marcus Lewis also filled up the stat sheet for Lasell as he finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds giving him a double-double. The leading scorer for the Lasers however was junior forward Quinton Partee Jr. who had 19 points off the bench on very efficient shooting.
Up Next - The Lasers head on a four-game road trip starting with the Fighting Scots of Gordon College on Saturday at 6 PM.
