MBB: Lasers Kick Off GNAC Play with Win

New London, CT - The Lasell Men's Basketball team opened their conference play on Saturday with a 68-60 win over Mitchell. The Lasers are now 5-2 on the season and 1-0 in GNAC play while the Mariners are 0-6 and 0-1.

The Mariners grabbed an early 6-2 lead, but it was a back and forth affair early on. The Lasers grabbed an 11-8 lead on a Greg Farrow three. The Lasers would add two more threes on the following two possesions with a three by Gabe Qua, followed by another Farror three pointer, giving the Lasers a 17-10 lead. The Lasers would extend their lead to as many as 14, and settled with a 10 point lead at half, leading 38-28.

The Mariners were able to get within as many as three at 43-40 just four minutes into the second half. But another timely three pointer, this time from Marcus Lewis, helped stop the momentum. The teams would trade blows over the next seven minutes, and the Mariners cut the lead to one. But the Lasers stayed composed, and once again got a clutch three pointer, this one from Cameron Foster-Martez. AFter that gave the Lasers a 59-52 lead with three minutes remaining, Lasell was able to cruise to a 68-60 win.

The Lasers had three double-digit scorers, led by Marcus Lewis' 19. Behind him was Greg Farrow and Gabe Qua with 15 and 14 each. Karim Belhouchet had eight off the bench. Andy Madesko led the team with eight rebounds, while also adding seven points. Che Hanks and Qua led the defensive efforts with Hanks collecting three steals and Qua rejecting three shots.

 

Up Next - The Lasers will play their last home game of 2023 on Tuesday at 6pm when they take on Husson.
