MBB: Lasers Lose in Overtime in Conference Opener

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers fell to the Johnson & Wales Wildcats in overtime Saturday night by a score of 74-71.  The Lasers fall to 3-5 on the season, and 0-1 in conference play. The Wildcats are now 1-2 and 1-0.

The game started without a basket in the first two minutes, before the Wildcats made a layup to start the scoring. A 10-2 run by the Wildcats was the difference maker in the first half, as they would hold a 34-27 lead at the half.

The teams would start the second half by trading baskets, but a 10-2 run by the Lasers brought them back into the game. Over the last 12 minutes, neither team led by more than four. The game itself featured 16 lead changes. The Lasers trailed by two with 10 second remaining in regulation when freshman Connor Duffy was fouled, and knocked down both free throws. The Wildcats would miss a three point shot at the end of the period, sending the game to overtime.

The Lasers would take the first lead in overtime on an EJ Day layup, but that would be their only lead in the extra period. Trailing by three in the final seconds of the game, the Lasers were unable to tie things up, as Conan McCusker missed a three point shot as the buzzer sounded.

The Lasers were led by EJ Day's 22 points. Behind him was Conan McCusker with 12. The Lasers had two double digit scorers off the bench in Connor Duffy and Quinton Partee Jr. They scored 11 and 10 respectively. Duff also led the team with nine rebounds.

Up Next - The Lasers will finish up the 2022 portion of their schedule on Saturday, December 10th. They will take on Saint Joseph's (ME), starting at 4pm.
