Five Double Figure Scorers Propel Lasell Past Suffolk in Men's Basketball Playoff Action

NEWTON, Mass. (2/23/16) – The Lasell College men's basketball team advanced to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference semifinals with a 78-64 victory over Suffolk Uiversity. The #2 seeded Lasers improved to 18-8 on the year, while the Rams dropped to 8-18 overall.

Pat Marchand and Logan Liberty both posted double-doubles, as Marchand finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds and Liberty notched 11 points and a career high 17 rebounds. Richard O'Brien added 18 points, Armin Omanovic added 13 points and five assists, and Scott Arsenault chipped in with 10 points in the victory.

Adam Chick finished with a team-high 23 points for the visitors, while adding 13 rebounds in the contest.  Seven Diprozo and Jake Meister each netted 11 points for the Rams, and Meister added eight rebounds and five assists in the loss.

The opening half was a closely contested affair featuring 13 lead changes with Lasell holding the largest lead through the first 20 minutes at 5 points, and the hosts took a four point lead into intermission on an Omanovich trifecta with four seconds remaining in the half.

A layup and three pointer from Suffolk's Chick to open the second half gave the visitors a 36-35 lead just over a minute into the second stanza. Lasell's O'Brien ignited a 16-5 run with a three pointer of his own, giving the Lasers a 52-41 lead with 12:40 remaining. Suffolk was unable to get closer than 8 the rest of the way as Lasell claimed the 78-64 victory.

The Lasers will host Albertus Magnus on Thursday February 25th at 7:00 p.m. in the GNAC semifinals.
